I wasn’t quiet sure if the NARS Spring 2016 Color Collection was of any interest to me but upon actual swatching, the Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow in Kari seemed like a practical addition to my collection. I know it’s been a while since this collection launched but since this eyeshadow is being added to the permanent line of Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow range, I figured it would still be worth talking about. And as I start to write this post, I’m surprised to see that I haven’t actually reviewed the permanent eyeshadows from the Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow range. This will be corrected as soon as I get the chance!

The eyeshadow comes in the matte black rubberized packaging as the rest of the line, although the feeling of the material is not as rubberized as the packaging of the single eyeshadows in the regular formula. The shadows are compact, and have magnetized closure and also come with a mirror that, despite being tiny, can actually be used for detailed makeup application on the eyes and lips.

The NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow formula can be used wet or dry for varying intensities, hence the dual-intensity being in the name… The formula definitely feels smooth but dry to the touch without feeling very dense or tightly packed. That being said, I have never had any issues picking up the shade on my brush or finger. When I’m using the shades wet, I don’t go in with a wet brush but rather pick up the shade on the brush and spray the brush. However, considering the eyeshadows are meant to be used wet, I assume going in with a wet brush would not ruin the product. The formula blends well on the skin and lasts all day over a primer with minimal fading after 8 hours on my eyes.

Kari is a medium pink-ish mauve with a satin finish.  Although there is some pearlescence to this shade in the pan, it pretty much behaves like a satin matte on the eyes. The shade leans warm or cool based on the eyeshadows I’m pairing it with but on it’s own, I don’t see it leaning either way. It’s a pretty neutral shade. Although the shade blends out pretty well, I don’t find it to be particularly buildable. When used wet, the shade becomes more intense but retains its essence as far as the colour and finish are concerned. In the pan, the shade reminded me of Europa, a favourite of mine from the Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow lineup, but when placed and swatched next to each other, it’s obvious that these are completely different shades.

As nice as it is to be able to get different looks from the same eyeshadow, it’s important to me that the eyeshadow works well dry since I am usually in a rush to get out the door in the morning. And I assume I am not alone in that. I was pleased to see that this eyeshadow performed well on it’s own and provides a polished look to the eye when used as a sheer wash. Of course, my medium skintone makes the shade looks closer to a neutral but on paler skintones, the pink will be a lot more evident. Majority of the Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow range is very shimmery and this eyeshadow, I think, compliments the range well as it can be used to compliment the more shimmery shades. I have actually been using it as a crease shade to ground the more shimmery looks and have been loving the results.

If you like the NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow formula and have been wanting a less shimmery, more everyday kind of shade, I think Kari is definitely worth a look. I would like to see more neutral, crease and blending colours in this range with a satin matte finish.

What do you think of the NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow range? Do you prefer the more shimmery shades to the satin matte finish of Kari?
