I don’t know why but Stila just doesn’t seem to catch my eye too often. There are very few products that seem to work for me so it’s never on my radar. The HUGE Extreme Lash Mascara is not one that I had heard about prior to receiving the sample but it may end up being the product that will get me to pay more attention to the brand.

The mascara comes in a circular matte gold tube that has eyelashes printed on it. I cant say I’m a fan of the eyelash print but I quite like the matte gold finish. The brush is big natural bristle brush with an hourglass shape. This brush was what intrigued me into trying it as it looks very similar to the Too Faced Better Than Sex brush. Same size, same shape. And Better Than Sex made the wedding day cut for me so that should tell you the gravity of this comparison.

Stila HUGE Extreme Lash Mascara has a very wet formula – possibly the wettest formula I have ever used. So if you don’t like wet formulas, this one will not be your cup of tea. It just took significantly longer to dry than most mascara – this was the first mascara to leave a huge line of mascara on my undereye almost 3 minutes after I put on the mascara. How does that even happen?! Any frustration with the formula was compounded by the fact that there was so much product on the brush that I was constantly wiping it off with a tissue before even beginning to apply the product to my lashes. This may have been due to an issue with the packaging of the sample tube so I can’t say this would necessarily be the case if you bought the full size of this mascara. But it may be.

Regardless, the mascara does live up to its name and provides and can give you some major volume. At first, I found them to be very clumpy, due to the wetness of the formula, and I found myself needing to take my time combing out my lashes with a heavy duty steel eyelash comb. But once it dries, it sets. And while the mascara does dry up with use it took a lot longer to dry up than other mascaras with similar formulas. With continued use, it eventually did become less clumpy but I don’t think this is the mascara for those who seek light, fluffy lashes. In addition to the volume, the mascara thickens and lifts the lashes and keeps them there until you take it off. I was able to do 18 hour days with this mascara and my eyelashes never looked droopy even once. And this was without curling the lashes first. I noticed slight flaking around the 4 hour mark at first but within a week or so, I no longer experienced any flaking. I didn’t experience any smudging but it is prone to smudging while it dries so you have to be careful with it until it dries.

The removal of the mascara was a tad difficult but not quiet to the level of taking off waterproof mascara. Although, I feel like this characteristic is shared by many mascaras that tend to lift the lashes.

I really enjoyed this mascara, to my own surprise. I just wish they had come up with a different name. It’s just so… On the nose. Personally, I like the mascara once it has been open for a while but as far as mascaras with the hourglass shaped brush go, I think I still prefer the Too Faced Better Than Sex. But Stila HUGE Extreme Lashes Mascara definitely is definitely giving it a run for its money!
