Chanel Rouge Allure in Mélodieuse (136) – Review & Swatches

I was just walking through the mall this weekend and looking at some of the newer spring collections that are starting to roll out on the counters. Having seen the Chanel Spring 2014 Notes de Printemps collection online, I really thought I was safe dropping by the counter and just swatching some of the products in the collection. I should’ve known better. *Hangs head in shame*

I actually found myself enamoured with all the lipsticks in the collection but the one that instantly stole my heart was the Rouge Allure in Mélodieuse (136). Before I say anything else, can we just take a moment to appreciate the simplicity of the Rouge Allure bullets? So clean and sleek – I love it. (Please excuse the grey, grainy photos – it was a snowy day with very little natural light)

Back to Mélodieuse. It’s a warm, pinked reddish coral that shows up as a flattering pinkish red on my pigmented lips. There is some shine when the lipstick is initially applied but the lipstick does mattify after a little while. Mélodieuse instantly livens up my face and brightens the complexion and is fast becoming an everyday lipstick. The lipstick goes on super smoothly and the shade provides medium coverage in one swipe but can be built up to full opacity in a second swipe. True to the Rouge Allure formula, this is not a hydrating lipstick but it’s not a drying one either; although when worn with a lip balm underneath, it’s very comfortable. The wear of the lipstick is also average and lasts around 3-4 hours if I’m not eating or drinking.

Compared to MAC’s Watch Me Simmer, Mélodieuse is a bit darker and more on pinker side while Watch Me Simmer is more of an orange coral. They look pretty similar in the swatches but on the lips, there’s no mistaking these two for being similar. Watch Me Simmer almost has a whiter base that makes it look almost pastel compared to Mélodieuse. Dior Addict Extreme Rivieara is significantly more sheer and more orange. NikkieTutorials reviewed the Chanel collection and has beautiful lip swatches depicting the shade on a lighter skintone (it looks much more red on me than it does on her).

Overall, I’m really glad I picked this up. This is my kind of everyday colour and it brightens up my face instantly. If you’re a fan of reddish corals, Chanel’s Mélodieuse is definitely worth checking out. I love love love it! What do you think of the Chanel’s Spring 2014 Notes de Printemps collection? Has anything caught your eye?

It really is! Are you thinking of getting it?

Definitely, either the Chanel or the MAC.

Thanks for reviewing this gorgeous lipstick. I’m trying to convince myself I don’t need it…that said, how does Melodieuse compares to Dior Addict Extreme Diablotine? I remember you really loved that color and I wondered if they’re similar.

    • NotSoFrivolous

You’re welcome, SoSuSam! I tried convinving myself as well but I wasn’t very successful. Lol!

I was going to compare it to Dior Diablotine but I decided to stick to permanent items for comaprison. Mélodieuse is significantly more pink and much brighter; Diablotine has much more orange-y red undertones. Swatched next to each other, Mélodieuse starts to look like a bright pink and it becomes hard to detect any pink in Diablotine. I hope that helps!

That is so helpful! Thank you. Your description really helps me understand the difference between the two…and if they’re that different, perhaps I can justify purchasing Melodieuese! ;)

Glad I could help! I think it can definitely be justified! :)
